This past weekend, I've been watching quite a few YouTube videos to keep up with the latest in lace wigs and hair. I watched a few DIY lace wig application videos, and I was quite alarmed on how many ladies were not protecting their hairline prior to applying the adhesive and tape. Protecting your hairline is THE MOST IMPORTANT step in the lace wig application process. If care is not taken to protect your edges, the glue and tape will lead to hair loss.
Steps to Protecting the Hairline Prior to Application
- Soak a cotton ball with alcohol and thoroughly clean your hairline. Let air-dry.
- Apply two coats of scalp protector (see below for brands) and let it air-dry between each coat.
- When scalp protector is tacky to touch, then proceed with the adhesive and tape process
Types of Scalp Protectors
**If you're extremely sensitive to the above products, you can opt for Ms. Lola's Colored Band-aids. These band-aids were designed to protect the hairlines. You will apply your adhesive and tape over the band-aids.
