Let Me Love You

Happy Friday Couture Beauties!
I have heard Neyo's new song "Let Me Love" on the radio for some time now, but never really listened to the words until Wednesday evening. I've been listening to this song non-stop now because I find the words to have a deep meaning. I dedicate this song to all the women who are struggling with Alopecia and are having difficultly allowing their significant other, friends, and family to love them. I know that feeling all too well because when I developed Alopecia and it progressed to total hair loss, the love I had for myself decreased. I felt embarrassed, ashamed, and ugly, so I just knew the people in my life felt the same way. I was wrong of course and it took strong support for me to take those steps to start loving me all over again. My message today is Let your loved ones love you until you begin to love yourself! Listen to the song below and think about the people that truly love you.

Recently, Kiyah Wright was interviewed by Ebony.com on her take for Fall's Sexiest Hair Colors. Kiyah is one my favorite celeb stylist that I follow because she always have those haute tips with hair and is very creative! In the interview Kiyah states "Red-copper, red-gold, red-violets and red-browns are all popular" for this season. Investing in weave or a lace wig is a perfect way to easy transition and play with colors this season as well as protecting your natural hair. Kiyah also gives tips on how to keep up with the maintenance on red hair. Click here to read this haute interview!

Beautiful Bold Bald Woman = Support!!!

Latina Benthall launched her first support group event for Beautiful Bold Bald Woman this past Saturday, September 22nd in Hampton, VA. I must say that this event was very inspiring, and I was excited to be invited being that I also suffer hair loss in the form of Alopecia Totalis. Beautiful Bold Bald Woman is an organization for any woman who experiences various forms of hairloss and is having a hard time dealing the psychological effects of the hair loss. If you are in the Hampton, Virginia surrounding area, attending one of Beautiful Bold Bald Woman’s support group meetings is a MUST!!! You cannot fight the challenges of hair loss alone; you need support to help guide you to living your best life that God has meant for you to live.

Beautiful Bold Bald Woman Mission
“To help women and individuals who suffer from ALOPECIA hair lost. Seeking to HELP spread ALOPECIA awareness through public events and exciting fundraisers, in hopes to accumulate proceeds that will contribute to a cure for an illness that has affected many women, such as myself. God has handcrafted us this way for a Purpose; His purpose, which would be to help women and other individuals stand strong and become confident in our own skin. I HAVE ALOPECIA, ALOPECIA DON’T HAVE ME!!!!”

Personally, every time I attend a support group meeting I learn how to deal with my alopecia in a different way that increases positivity in my life. I know I am a bit late with the VMAs style, but I was busy watching our President the night it aired. I did however get a few glances of the show and noticed a lot of glamourous hair styles. Rihanna's new hair do really caught me by surprise. Amber Rose was so glowing and pretty pregnant. I have always loved Amber's hair! Are you trying to decided whether you should go short or long this Fall? Take a look at some of the beauties that were at the VMAs and think about your next hairstyle. What's Your Favorite Feature?

Source: Essence.com
This past weekend was very calm and relaxing where I actually I had some down time to read Essence (October issue) magazine. I must say that this issue had a lot of goodies in it starting with the Beauty Encyclopedia, Beauty Awards, the scoop on Jill Scott, article on how to build your life up, and the my favorite section...Your Beauty, Your Way.

The section on Your Beauty, Your Way is about different women who were winners in the Dare to Be You Beauty Search and they were asked what their favorite feature was on their body and why. As I was flipping through the pages reading about each person's favorite feature, I landed on a page with a beautiful woman who was bald. As I read the page, I had tears in my eyes because I just couldn't believe what I was reading. The woman's name was Ceriene L. and her favorite feature was her bald head. Alopecia Areata was the reason why Ceriene was bald! Ceriene said "When I look in the mirror I see a woman who is walking in confidence and grace and is strong in knowing who she is".  This was such a powerful statement. There are so many women with alopecia who refuses to look in the mirror because they think they are ugly or no longer feel like a woman. I used to feel that way for about eight years after being diagnosed with alopecia areata.  My mother is the one who practically forced me to look in the mirror at the beauty God has blessed me with.

Over time I would pick apart different features on my face and make that my main focus to overcome my hair issue and face the world with happiness. My best features are my eyes and lips. I overindulge in makeup to bring these features out.  I am still in the process of  building the confidence to face with world with my baldness, but I am too addicted to hair to do so.

So Ladies, what is your favorite feature? If you do not have a favorite feature, take some serious one on one time  with yourself and really study your face. You will begin to fall in love with yourself all over again!

Hair For the Corporate Diva...Hair loss in the Workplace

Hair loss in the workplace is something that I have personally struggled with for the last 13 years due to my alopecia. We as women are always told to dress to impress and for our hair & makeup to be near perfect. When the onset of sudden hair loss occurs, it leaves women feeling unattractive and lack self-esteem.  The psychological effects of hair loss can have a negative effect on the productivity in the workplace.

Invest in your Couture Lace Hair System to help you feel not only confident, but also beautiful as you enter the workplace. With the lace system, you have no more worries on wondering if coworkers can see your thinning hair or bald spots. Prior to wearing wigs, I would constantly change my style to cover up my bald spots so no one would notice, but after a while not worked except the lace system.   You can have your lace system customized and styled for your perfect professional look. Visit www.couturelacecrowns.com to see our luxury collection of lace systems.

Alopecia Awareness Inspiration

Inspiration: Over the past month, I have been truly inspired by a woman named Sandra Dubose who is living with Alopecia Universalis. Watch the video below to see why I am so inspired. Sandra is such a beautiful woman inside & out. Guess what...Sandra also wrote a book that was released September 1st called "My Crown and Glory, It's Not About the Hair" Six Fundamental Principles to Heal Emotional Wounds and Build Healthy Self-Esteem. I know this is going to be a great book and I can't wait to read it. The book can be purchased directly from her site
