Haute 2013 Inauguration Hairstyles

Hey Couture Beauties!

I know many of us were glued to our televisions, computers, phones, and tablets this past Monday watching every minute of our 2nd historical inauguration. This year seems like everyone was on their fashionable p's and q's. I was in awe of the hairstyles of not only Beyonce, but also the First Lady and Kelly Clarkson.

First Lady Michelle Obama - Chic new cut w/ fringe bangs. This is an all-in-one style that can be simple, sexy, elegant, and sophisticated all at the same time. Style can be achieved with a flat iron and add some serum for a touch a shine to your tresses. I give this style five stars!

Beyonce - As always Bey does a GLAM SLAM with every event she performs. I love the first photo wear she gives that sultry "Yes, I'm Beyonce" look. I'm going to try to attempt to copy her makeup look. (Post coming soon). She sported her signature long loose curls. Style can be achieved with a curling wand without the clamp and serum to add a touch of shine to the tresses. What I love most about Bey is that she has had the same hair color for a years now. This style gets five stars too.

Kelly Clarkson - I love Kelly's look too. She didn't go all the way glam, but she did keep it nice and simple with her natural waves. The blond tresses really brighten up her face and gave her a glow.

Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr's Day

Source: Google Images

Today's post is dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr! This is one of my favorite quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. No matter what is going on within your life, always look and move forward. King paved that way for all people to know that with love & faith any and all things are possible through God.

Today is also extra special because our President Obama will be swearing in today to continue on his presidency for another four more years. This is exactly what King wanted for this country, for all to have equal opportUNITY.

Wig Consultations Is A Must!

Yesterday, I posted on Facebook that when you invest in a lace crown that a wig consultation is a must. I know many are probably asking why. Well the process is similar to buying a car where you choose the car you want, color, and all the other luxury options. When your buy a wig at your local beauty supply store are limited to the wigs they have and you do not receive any type of personal service.

Buying a lace system is an investment and you should get exactly what you want. Essence stated in their November 2012 Issue that "Lace wigs are the Rolls Royce of wigs". Investing in a lace system is a luxury purchase and a wig consultation is an luxury service. When investing in a lace system, you should always have a full or mini wig consultation to go over all the options available to design your crown. Reviving Your Lace System

Over the Christmas holiday, I wore my Brazilian lace unit (posted on Instagram several times) because I wanted that glamourous look! Only to be left with frizzy & poofy hair. I have deep conditioned this unit several times to revive it back to its original condition...mind you the unit is a little over six months old. The deep conditioning process does work, but when you wear your unit on a daily basis for months and it picks up the oils from your scalp the cuticles are bound not act right.

I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos and searching the net about the bleach bath process and ended up following the process posted on Black Hair Media's blog. I've known about the process for some time, but never had a reason to try it until now. The bleach bath should be used as a last resort when all other options have been exhausted. You may be thinking that the bleach process sounds a little harsh for the hair, but I'm here to tell you that IT'S THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY UNIT! The bleaching process helps to reflatten the cuticles of the hair leaving you with detangled, smooth, bouncy, and flowing tresses. I was amazed at how my unit came out. Below are a few pics as I went through with the process. Before and after the bleach bath, seal your knots!

Final results ...

So if you are experiencing tangling, poofy, and frizzy hair try the bleach bath and watch you unit be revived to its original condition! Click here to read step by step instructions for the bleach bath.

Keeping Alopecian Nails Beautified

Hey Couture Beauties!
Over the weekend, I had a mini-spa day with my favorite girls (Mom, Sister, & Daughter). We went to get our nails glamified. I rarely get my nails done because of my Alopecia. Living with Alopecia over the years, I learned that the immune system does not just attack the hair follicles; it attacks the nails too. One of the signs of having Alopecia are the pitting (pinpoint dents) of the nails that may be associated with dark lines and discoloration. I'm still doing research to figure out why the nails are affected with the onset of Alopecia.
My thumb nail with the dark line,  discoloration, and deformity (slowly going away).
Being a woman who loves glam, I strive to keep my nails looking freshly manicured everyday. There are things you can do to hide the pitting and other minor issues with the nails. For me, I do a combination of things and the gel nails are one. I do the gel nails every so often when I have a little extra money on the side or if I feel I need the extra pampering. The gel nails are perfect because it hides the imperfections of the nails. When I do my own nails, I use a ridge filler, nail revitalizer, cuticle oil, and a hand cream with Vitamin E that I mix with a little of Ammonium Lactate Cream 12%. When I started experiencing the deformity over the summer, my dermatologist prescribed the Ammonium Lactate Cream 12% (over-the-counter), which has been working in the regrowth of my nail.

If you have Alopecia and are experiencing nail pitting, seek a dermatologist and avoid any type of nail enhancements.

2012 Review | Blog from 0 to 11,713 Pageviews in 2012 + Looking Forward 2013

Happy 2013 Couture Beauties!

I started my blog in January to compliment my new business Couture Lace Crowns (opened Feburary). I was very new to blogging and had no idea what to write nor what to actually do with the blog. I just knew I wanted to reach other women who was living with Alopecia like myself. My goal was to help others overcome the challenges that Alopecia brought into our lives. I will continue this goal in 2013 being that my blog stats went from 0 to 11,713 pageviews!!! I must say that I am totally amazed that I received that many pageviews. Honestly, I didn't think I would touch that many people.

My blog actually took a life of its own and I know many of you probably see that I am dedicated to my business and I'm a beauty addict. I've had a strong love for hair & makeup since high school and alopecia has made it even stronger. So as we move forward to 2013, I will be doing more with my blog and hoping to inspire more women to see the true beauty the lies within them.

As 2013 progresses, so will Alopecian Tresses & Beauty blog. I will be sharing my wig-making progress with you, more makeup reviews, videos, and more giveaways.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO READ MY BLOG IN 2012!!!
